My Yellow Chair, Part 4: It’s All About Jesus!

We became connected with Marriage Encounter and we were asked to share our experience at other churches. The fires of revival burned brightly in Pittsburgh, and we invited our friends to the St Martin’s prayer meeting. Marlene and Yale Levin came, and Yale received Christ there. The Schafers came and they invited us to attend a bible study in a nearby town. The teaching of the word fed our spirits and Dave was studying the Kenneth Hagin books that he had been given. He also listened over and over to the Fred Price tape, “Is Healing for All?”  The change in our lives was amazing. We were then led to the faith teaching that helped us to grow.

Eventually we left St. Martin’s to attend a baptist church. Their roof leaked, and it was hard to find a parking spot, but we found a place to grow and were water baptized. There was also a brethren church where the Holy Spirit moved, and healings took place. We took our children with us on Sunday nights and gifts of the Spirit flowed. Never in our lives had we experienced anything like it.

We also helped with the “Jesus” music festivals in 1975 and 1976. These huge camping gatherings were held in the Pennsylvania farmlands. They asked Dave to join their staff of set up and planning. Work crews set up all the campsites, and soon people came by the thousands, they stayed in tents and some stayed in trailers. Giant ministry tents were set up; one for people who wanted salvation and one tent for the infilling of the Holy Spirit. I joined in with some artwork and our kids loved helping on the “Chain Gang.”

The campsites surrounded a large stage where musicians played, and popular christian singers performed. There was also a pond where people were immersed in water for water baptisms. It was great to see families coming up out of the water with hands raised. We were excited about Jesus!
